Generic Name : Chloramphenical

Pronunciation : Klor-am-FEN-eh-coal

Trade Name(s) : Andrecin, chlormet, chloromycetin, enteromycetin, mycin, dexoren . Penicol and vanamycetin.

Why it is prescribed: It works by breaking and removing the dead skin and tissues to encourage healing of wounds.

When it is to be taken: First clean the wounds as directed and gently dry the area.Apply a thin layer of ointment and cover the area with gauze or bandage as recommended.Change the bandage 3 times a day.

How it should be taken: It comes as 30 g,5 mg ointment. 50 applicaps are also availiable.

Special Instruction : Tell your doctor if you have allergies.

Side Effects : Redness,irritation,swelling and rash are the common side effects of this drug.

Other Precautions : use carefully in the case of pregnancy and lactation.

Storage Conditions : Store it at 15-30 degree celsius.
